Hi, my name is Laura and I run Awaken Creator, along with all the helping hands of many whom I'm blessed to call friends. You can learn more about me on my website here.
Awaken Creator started out with the desire to connect to my fellow kindred creatives. After curating two small but busy and happy group art exhibits at the gallery room at Coffee Underground in 2017 and 2018, I was eager to do more community organizing.
But the pandemic happened before I had a chance to recollect my endeavors. Finally in 2022 I had an opportunity to organize what is now known as a Creative Meetup.
The original idea was that I would provide and conduct the Creative Station, a mobile art-making tool-access-point brought to set up at public places. Since, I've been hosting (during warm seasons) creative meetups at local spaces like restaurants, a public park and eventually a gallery. Our friends brought friends, their friends brought theirs, aquaintances and individuals in the community would come out and share creative space on a weekend (usually a Sunday) afternoon.
(check our instagram page to see content from both past and current meetups and curations.)
In 2023 I had the opportunity to curate my own solo show, so I did. I integrated my friendships and acquaintanceship with artists whom I admired through public exhibit of our artistic collaborations. It was my way of saying "thank you."
Again burning with a fever to curate something specially meaningful, I started planning the, "As Within, So Without" group art exhibit which opened first Friday July 3rd of 2026.
It's an opportunity to cultivate meaningful connections with the creative spirit in our fellow humans. It's the creators we are acknowledging oursleves and others, and in turn honoring the/our highest [selves, purpose, (or what many call) "God"] through "loving one another". Love being the nurturing of ourselves and others unto our highest potential through kindness, understanding, collaboration and the support of each-others' wellbeing. I seek to do this through social organizing and the curation and fascilitation of community events such as creative social gatherings, art exhibits, interactive [mind expanding] instalations, workshops, performances and presentations that benefit all participants and expectators. Such event must culminate, at least, unto each of us finding ourselves a little better than we were, if not inspired and animated to love anyone else we come in contact with.
